If you are a customer-focused professional looking for an engaging position with opportunities for development and advancement, we want to hear from you!     Personal Lines and Commercial Lines Underwriting Internship: Preference will be given to seniors with an anticipated graduation date in 2018 All applicants must note your anticipated graduation date on your application Due to the potential of this position leading to full-time employment, at this time we are not accepting applicants that require f1 student or H1B sponsorship     Details of the Internship: Dates: 10 week program Location: Syracuse, NY Working Hours: 8:00am - 4:15pm  (37.5 Hours) Pay: $14.00hr plus holiday pay     Skills learned during the internship: 
  • Line of business or product reviews - review segments of a book of business with loss ratio concerns and determine trends and loss drivers
  • Identify segments of the commercial lines underwriting book of business that are profitable and drive growth in those areas
  • Review competitor filings to include rates, forms, and territory definitions
  • Underwriting activities to include quote/new business, endorsement, and renewals review
  • Information gathering, data analysis, competitor comparisons, reports review and analysis, and participation in rate reviews process
  • Develop conceptual and analytical abilities, decision-making and negotiation skills
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Undergraduate studies in finance, economics, marketing, business administration, insurance, risk management, or other related fields
  • GPA of 3.0 or above
  • Involvement in extracurricular school activities desirable
  • Demonstration of applicable work experience required - customer service experience a plus
  • Ability to establish priorities and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Prior experience in gathering, organizing and analyzing data required
  • Proficiency and proven skill in use of computer programs, including strong knowledge and utilization of Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel) 
  • Ability to work independently, high level of organizational skills and self-motivation are needed
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills - must possess ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the company with internal and external customers, agents, vendors, etc.
  • Ability to maintain composure, exercise good judgment and act in a professional manner when challenged
  • Ability to build and sustain positive and collaborative working relationships
  • Must be willing to travel to other MSA locations
