Richmond Claims Intern

Paid Internship - Casualty Claims
Details of the Internship:
Dates: 10 week program June 3rd - August 9th
Location: Richmond, VA
Working Hours: 8:00am - 4:15pm (37.5 Hours)
Pay: $16.00 per hr plus pay for MSA's July 4th holiday (This year includes July 4th and 5th)

*Due to the potential of this position leading to full-time employment, at this time we are not accepting applicants that require F1 student or H1B sponsorship.

Skills learned during the internship:
• Adjusting claims.
• Acting as front line contact with agents, insureds and claimants.
• Interpreting policies.
• Investigating claims and policy coverage.
• Authorizing or denying payment of claims within established authority levels and Company guidelines.


Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Undergraduate studies in insurance, risk management or other related business fields; prefer exposure to classes in area of insurance or related
  • Preference will be given to seniors with anticipated graduation date of May, 2019. (see Note below)   
  • GPA of 3.0 or above.
  • Ability to establish priorities and work in a fast-paced environment; self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Strong attention to detail, proven organizational skills, as well as ability to multi-task; must be able to follow processes and instructions with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills; prior experience in gathering, organizing and analyzing data.
  • Must be able to utilize questioning techniques to gather pertinent information and possess investigative skills needed for claims processing.
  • Proficiency and proven skill in use of office support tools available at the desktop, including strong knowledge and utilization of Microsoft Office products, especially Excel and Word.
  • Some knowledge of working in a business office environment preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills including ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the company with internal and external customers (claimants, vendors, etc.).
